Metalloproteins in Neurological Disorders is an interdisciplinary network located at DTU Chemistry which combines the highly complementary expertise of protein design, expression, production and purification, mass-spectroscopy-based characterization, X-ray crystallography, small-angle X-ray scattering, X-ray absorption spectroscopy as well as quantum, classical and bioinformatics simulations using high-performance cluster computing platforms.
The main aim of the network is to provide a collaborative platform for investigating the chemical properties of proteins involved in neurological diseases, with the long-term goal of understanding how these protein properties cause disease and how they can be remedied. The main focus is currently on potential protein-misfolding diseases such as Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson’s disease, diabetes, and Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, and in the development of techniques that can be used to study such proteins.
The current members of the network are associate professors Hans E. M. Christensen, Kenny Ståhl, Pernille Harris, Günther H. Peters, and Kasper P. Kepp, located in the sections of inorganic and physical chemistry at DTU Chemistry.
