Within just few weeks, Associate Professor Sophie Beeren has been awarded two major grants supporting her research at the interface of supramolecular chemistry and enzymology.
The Carlsberg Foundation has just announced the recipients of their grants for visionary research ideas. Among the chosen is Associate Professor Sophie Beeren from DTU Chemistry. She is one of just 28 researchers to receive the ‘Carlsberg Foundation Young Researcher Fellowships’.
The grant of 4.5 MDKK will be spent on expanding Sophie Beeren's research group with one PhD and two postdocs – strengthening the research project ‘Enzyme-Mediated Dynamic Combinatorial Chemistry’.
Earlier this month, The Novo Nordisk Foundation also chose to fund one of Sophie Beeren’s enzyme-focused research projects. The project was given 2.87 MDKK under the grant pool ‘Project grants for biotechnology-based synthesis and production research’.
Both projects have combined goals of developing a sustainable approach to carbohydrate synthesis and investigating new ways to exploit enzymes, as well as accessing novel carbohydrate materials, and exploring their properties as hosts for molecular encapsulation.
Recently, the article ‘Enzyme-mediated dynamic combinatorial chemistry allows out-of-equilibrium template-directed synthesis of macrocyclic oligosaccharides’ by Sophie Beeren and postdoc Dennis Larsen was picked as Chem. Sci. ‘Pick of the week’. Read about the selection here.
