The Innovation Fund Denmark has granted 1.5 million DKK to Associate Professor Katrine Qvortrup from DTU Chemistry, who is receiving an Innoexplorer grant.
We are pleased to announce that Katrine Qvortrup has recieved the prestigious Innoexplorer grant of 1.5 mio DKK for her project: 'Targeting Nature's Gatekeeper for Improved Drug Delivery to the Brain'.
Katrine and her team have discovered a new and more effective way to deliver drugs to the brain with fewer side effects. They use the transport mechanism of a neurotropic virus to cross a barrier in the brain and deliver the drugs to specific areas that are important in treating brain diseases. Katrine and her team have successfully delivered a diabetes drug to the brain and stimulated certain receptors that have protective effects on the brain. This method shows promise in treating various brain disorders.

Innoexplorer is the Innovation Fund Denmark´s program that aims to mature entrepreneurship based on knowledge and research results from the public Danish research and education institutions and hospitals.
Innoexplorer er for ansatte på offentlige forsknings- og uddannelsesinstitutioner og hospitaler, der har opnået forskningsresultater med et kommercielt potentiale og har et mål om at etablere en virksomhed baseret på resultaterne.
Innoexplorer invests between DKK 500,000 and 1.5 million in each project (incl. overhead), and projects may last up to 12 months.
